Interim Chair
Sandra Gaston
Sandra Gaston has been in technology for 37 years, starting as a software developer and advancing to Vice President of Quality Engineering. She is a powerhouse of strategy, leadership, and transformation. Her experience spans across numerous industries from oil, retail, distribution, telecommunications to financials. She is a widower after 26 years of marriage and a mother of two beautiful children and one energetic grandson. Most recently, Sandra has launched her faith-based consulting, coaching and speaking business and is helping ASOP advance is mission and vision forward.

Vice Chair
Dr. Kareem Puranda
Dr. Kareem Puranda is the Founder and Vice Chair of ASOP. A licensed clinical mental health counselor, author, and former law enforcement officer, Dr. Puranda brings a rare blend of lived experience and professional insight to ASOP’s mission. His leadership focuses on empowering youth through social and emotional intelligence, mentorship, and community engagement. As Vice Chair, he provides strategic guidance and program development oversight, ensuring that ASOP’s initiatives continue to transform lives, one youth, one community, and one city at a time.

Treasurer
Elijah Harris
Elijah Harris is a Senior Tax Accountant and the Treasurer of ASOP. Coming from the small town of Raeford, NC, community has always been a vital part in the development of who he is today. Elijah joined ASOP's board because its mission aligns with his strong desire to create a safe place for youth to learn who they truly are and the potential that they have within.

Secretary
Antoinette Valdez
Toni Valdez is a cybersecurity professional and Ph.D. student in Cyberpsychology. She mentors high school students and advocates for empowerment, mental wellness, and gives back to the community. Toni serves as Secretary of the Board, where she joined to help empower youth and families to achieve success with intention and confidence.
She aspires to help ASOP expand programs and partnerships that uplift and inspire.

Committee Chair
Julien Durant
Julien Durant works in Commercial Banking. Originally from Charlotte, NC, he earned his finance degree from North Carolina Central University. He joined the board to help strengthen the organization’s impact and contribute to the positive change ASOP is bringing to the community.

Kersha Hunter
Kersha is a dedicated licensed psychotherapist with over 22 years of experience. Throughout her career, she’s had the privilege of working with diverse populations, including individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, ptsd, and addiction. Kersha is equipped with a solid foundation in evidence-based therapeutic techniques. She empowers individuals to develop effective coping strategies, enhance their self-esteem, and cultivate resilience. Kersha’s dedication to creating sustainable change aligns seamlessly with ASOP’s mission.

Micheal Sherman
Michael Sherman works in Education and is honored to serve on the ASOP Board because
he believes every child deserves equal opportunities to succeed. With a deep passion for community work and education, Mike is committed to giving back and uplifting children in the community. Being a part of ASOP allows him to live out his values of service, equity, and empowerment, while working to ensure that all young people can reach their full potential.
